Assignment:
This week we have to model 2D and 3D elements using different softwares, some open source, others not.
As suggested in class, we have to try at least two different of each 2D and 3D softwares in order to decide which one to work with, taking in consideration individual skills.
2D DESIGN
As I mention before, I have some experience with Illustrator CS6 and obviously it was my first option, but I decide to give a chance to InkScape and figuere out how it works.
Since I already have Illustrator installed in my computer, first step was install XQuarts to be able to run InkSkape.
For the 2D assignment I decided to make my potential Final Project logo, but firs I had to decide a name. I chose YECATL which means potable water in Nahatl language, to translate from Spanish to Nahuatl I use Aulex online dictionary, and I decided to use it because Nahuatl is the language people spoke in El Salvador in the Pre-colombine era.
I started drawn an sketch, I scan and cut it in Photoshop CS6 to use it as a layout to draw my logo.
In InkSkape I first import the image layout and start to draw, I found is to simmilar to Illustrator CS6, was just matter of time to get familiar with menu and tools, but the result was almost te same.
I download Rounds Black font from dafont to use it in my logo, once it was installed I start to work. Here is the practice developement in InkScape first and then in Illustrator CS6
3D DESIGN
For the 3D design assignment I decided to draw a nut because in my project I will need to print some hose connectors and it's a good idea to practice. I have almost never used a 3D software before, and I decided to try on Rhinoceros 5 first because I already have it installed in my computer, but as I have no experience, I looked for some help and I found a You Tube tutorial where I can practice and learn.
Next step was try in Sculptris to create the same nut, and I had to install the software.
The process was a little difficult and I had first to read the user manual, included in the instalation package, because I couldn't figure out how it works.
I had to save the nut file I previously design in Rhinoceros to OBJ format to be able to import it, then I just try to use the tools and materials.
